ISIS Holds Open Forum

In a continued effort to upgrade security, and to meet the needs of women in the community, an Open Forum was held at Isis on June 28th. The turnout of approximately 30 concerned women were quite overwhelming in their response to the suggested proposals offered by the management and single male spokesman representing the ownership.

Since the time of the tragic incident, that occured on June 4th, there have been several changes made in the previous security measures. These progressive measures were given top priority in the discussion, with the floor open to suggestions for additional improvements.

Presently taking effect is increased security provided on a seven day per week basis: Escort policewoman to parking areas will be provided if so desired by a patron. The most noticeable change will be initiated through the institution of membership cards. Non-members and gay men will be admitted only if escorted by members on a one guest per member basis. Membership cards will be made available at no charge to patrons through the Isis staff. How-

ever, the admittance of gay men, met with considerable controversy from the floor.

There were two major stances, one by the women who strongly desire the facility to be exclusively women, and the other of those wanting freedom to entertain their gay male friends. A seemingly reasonable compromise offered, would allow admittance of gay men one week night, resulting in an exclusive women's facility six days a week. In an effort to resolve this issue and others also addressed during the forum, the process of voting by ballot was offered for a majority concensus.

Other concepts discussed that evening were the possibility of relocating Isis to the new Chaps complex at 2408 Prospect, changing Isis to a major dance facility, and other various acts of expansion in regard to entertainment for women. These ideas were a collective means for inducing the feedback needed for a conducive environment for women, and were not presented as being final plans.

It is not very often that the patrons of any establishment are given the opportunity to assist in the policy making or have an active
